Still alive (and not taking any new commissions)

Sun Jul 15, 2007, 5:31 PM
Wow look at that. I haven't updated my gallery for... 5 months?!

First, an apology to the bunch of my private commissioners. I'm not going to abandon the artworks you already paid me for, however delayed they are. I think I have... 7 of them as of now, and even though I feel totally shite about my art now I'm quite happy with how a few of them are coming along.

Sorry to the few who wrote to me about a commish, and I still receive new enquiries fequently, to those I replied yes, if you haven't paid, then I'd have to cancel... sorry sorry. :(

Speaking of which, I really, REALLY am sick of the art I do now. I *think* I am improving, but not as fast as I'd like. Obviously due to not enough practice. And then I look at more sketchy stuff like game concept art, and more stylized work such as comics and design work, and think, I'd rather do 20 of those than to spend countless hours on one finished slick painting. More and more I feel like I've skipped really learning about the fundamentals in art, and not having any understanding in other disciplines of art.

So... it's a feeling that's been building up for a long time now. I have to try and direct some energy to other things... I've been telling everyone I know that I want to learn guitar, still haven't got around to getting one for myself. Oh I just remembered, someone once told me, "You're a girl so it's better if you stick with the piano." Hahaha!

Other random things... I detest winter... my webmail continues being a pain in the arse... I am most likely PMS-ing which explains all this negative vibe, putting "This is Hardcore" on repeat, and a craving for junk food.

Just take your time on mine. I am a patient person and I think you taking a breather is more important than drawing it right now. Draw it when you are inspired to draw it... and not a moment sooner. Okay ^_^? Just take it easy!!!

seems like you've got a lot of things on your mind so just worry about them. I'd like to chat again some time if you're ever on MSN again ;_;

maybe you just need a relaxing break :)
What helped me was to do more speed painterly work, stop refining things for awhile and do studies and focus on shapes and composition and the concepts. For some reason that was a breath of fresh air after doing a lot of deadline oriented work that sapped my energy out. You may want to give it a try if you still want to do art but can't quite find that right motivation.

Maybe even try a collaboration? I found it helped me learn new things from artists, those little nuances and quirks that makes us - us. I found it to be quite fascinating.

Otherwise I'd just say take a break. Trying to do art while worn out is a great way to just make yourself really bitter at the whole thing. And hating art is probably one of the saddest things that can happen to an artist I think.

Hang in there, you've got the support of many :). Just don't beat yourself up too hard - that sure won't help you out much hehe.

Heh, I totally didn't realise you were from NZ too until you said you hate winter and I checked.

Maybe branching out in another branch of art which is still kinda similar might present a bit of a challenge to inspire you. Have you ever tried doing what you do but in traditional mediums?

Well it's nice to hear from your quarter again! I'd been wondering where you'd got to.

I find that I go through fazes of not being able to draw. They're tough to deal with.
Welcome back. :3

Not sure what "fundamentals" you're missing, as your work is invariably beautiful, but I do know that variety is what keeps things interesting, so if you need to refocus your creativity to keep happy... well, then, that's what you've gotta do. Just don't put it off. Go buy yourself a guitar and learn the damned thing! ;)
