Does anyone find the whole Myspace/LJ/Facebook/Bebo/whatever incredibly confusing?

I have an LJ account from ages ago which I never use, signed up to Myspace maybe last year, the password to which I can't even remember now, and just signed up to Facebook to see what it's about... again I failed to see what people use it for. Some kind of online address book with photos? Looking at Myspace gives me unending headache.

I feel so last generation O___O What do all you cool kids do on those things these days?!

(also, I did buy an electric guitar :O)

//edit// good god, I was doing random searches on Facebook and I actually found a LOT of people I went to high school with. Most of them probably didn't really know me but I recognize their names and faces. I wonder if I should message the few who were sort of my friends. It's weird because back then I didn't talk to anyone at school...

My friends pester me to go on Facebook because they say it is 'Oh so awesome'. I have enough trouble going on myspace & bebo I don't need facebook as well but I had one just for them, soon enough they stopped pestering me to go on it and I wondered by.. one random day I decided to go back on it and I saw someone pretending to be me posting as me on my friends pages. I was angry and only then did my friends realize I never went on Facebook. xD so now they pester me again.

depends on when you try to join it... XD because I joined it like... when it had just started... and i guess for me it was like... an upgrade of neopets? LMFAO! no, myspace is a good way to basically keep in touch with people at school, (stalk them! HAHA) and learn basic HTML... XD

It's okay! I got a myspace in Dec. and haven't been on since Feb. I think I only went on two times, too....I just fail to see the point.
robinmdh Featured By Owner Mar 29, 2008
i don't get it either, deleted my facebook account only weeks after creating it etc.

what happend to the real world etc ...

your art is beautiful!
but sometimes it feels like the characters and the background don't mix well, maybe you should make a blending of your characters and the background just a couple of see trough pixels should be ok (when light encounters an edge it bends around it a bit) but I'm no artist so feel free to disregard it.

Not really, but I've been on LJ forever. Ok, so maybe five years isn't really forever, but it certainly feels like it. I don't even know how many LJ accounts I have anymore.

MySpace, however? ICK! WasteOfSpace!
wittyxwitch Featured By Owner Dec 26, 2007
i dont have a facebook, but my cousin and all her friends do. there's also a butt load of ppl @ my church that have one. they keep coming to me saying, "you gotta get a facebook."
i say no cuz i'm swamped with other sites.
acida Featured By Owner Dec 21, 2007
you only get confused by the websites in the beginning... i always feel confused when i join a new website, wether it's about art or something like myspace. after a while i get used to it lol.
facebook is more like.. kinda hi5... LOl is only cute because it has cute applicables lol like superpokes and growing gifts is not much big deal, bad part is that you can only deactive your account... -g-

I don't belong to any of those sites. I may have joined Facebook if I hadn't heard about someone having their account hacked. There's also that fact that Facebook used to be for people in high school and up, but now they've given in and let younger people join. Myspace is ridiculous, what with the disorganization. And I've never heard of Bebo., not interested in blogging and such. DA is enough for me. :)
archvermin Featured By Owner Oct 11, 2007
I never bothered with them.

They're really just personal websites except they have a template all laid out for you aren't they?

I use Myspace (only) as my main social outlet. (pathetic huh?) I found it confusing at first, and didn't want a page, but my bro.-in-law convinced me to make a profile, and i've found old high school buddies, keep up with bands and stuff; a few friends i met from World of Warcraft; and as my jukebox. That's what i use my Myspace for.

Gratz on the Guitar!! I so wish I could have mine back :(
you'll haveta post a pic of it for us! :D

I joined facebook just cos an old friend got in touch through it, lay dormant for ages, all a bit odd for me (fecking hate myspace & the like), but tascha & henning found out my dirty secret and added me, since then i've found that it has an oekaki on it, it's cool haha

still only have 4 friends though

update, my weird family have invaded, filled up my page with a load of crap applications, but it's getting funny (poking people and doing shit quizzes is fun), taking up far too much of my time the last couple of weeks haha

I use myspace to reconnect with far away family and old highschool friends - but all of us are rarely on it so it's kinda pointless. I don't use LJ because I find it hard to navigate and figure out.
Gwathiell Featured By Owner Sep 7, 2007  Hobbyist Photographer
I am not a cool kid :) But after searching for some communication-socialize-something-whatever I found facebook best. I don't know bepo thou. I am signed up at myspace - but technicly I don't like it. Facebook is good - I could connect there with other people from IBM and its simple. No extra skins, just little toys for me to kill time nicely and let my friends know what is new with me.

Cool kids use deviantART. End of story.
kieren024 Featured By Owner Sep 7, 2007
the only purpose that i can see there is to track down your highschool or elementary buds or whenever and getting in touch with them aside from have news on them. but i dont think that's purpose enough. i also find it funny why most people want you to give them a testimonial and they will give you one back. :p

COOL YOU PLAY?!?! XDDD someday i would like to avail my own bass guitar XD
jeffsimpsonkh Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007
Yeah man. Facebook is the best. everyone and their dog is on that (in my part of the world anyways)
peachysticks Featured By Owner Sep 7, 2007
Apparently not on my part of the world though. So far only 4 (out of 10) of my "friends" on there are people I actually knew at school. I think it's because I'm old and uncool :(

Btw, my friend was puzzled why my "friends" are all "bald and look like Jesus". I think you're the Jesus one :D :D :D
thraxllisylia Featured By Owner Sep 7, 2007  Hobbyist Digital Artist
good god, linda. You are younger than me and you label yourself "OLD"..tishhk yea right :O.

i can't stand myspace :pissedoff: . I never ever want to have one, even though my friend wants me to make one.
KeeyanMe Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
I think Facebook = constant communication where people can interact and share photos even if the other person is busy atm, which is unlike AIM, which is real-time.

and it's a good way to hook up with old friends.
astarot Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007
Myspace and the other sites like that suck, had a Myspace page i had to remove it because of the pointless sexual harassments.
hmm electro yummy, gonna buy a new ibanez rg 1527 prestige soon 6 strings are boring me and dont have enough money to buy rg 2228 (8 strings) so 7 is enough for a long time, god i really sound like an idiot show-off lol

:giggle: The 'edit' made me laugh b/c that's facebook! All randomness & poking. I think you should message those people - more will remember you than you think, I'm sure! (talking from personal experience)

well for myspace, I mainly use it to mess about with html and keep in contact with old school friends, i've founds loads of my old friends that have moved away on there ^^

it's good to catch up once in a while

I don't care for myspace. I think it's a waist of internet space. However, I do use Facebook mostly to stay in touch with friends from univeristy (I've graduated) and it's nice because most of (if not all) your friends are there so it's like a one-stop catch-up shop.
Slapo Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007
They're great for pervs, I'd say... which is why I don't really use any of them but Flickr, where I upload some of my photos.
EvaLilith Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I only really use it to keep track of a few people that I don't get to see that often... I got it over the summer as an additional way to keep in touch with my college buddies til we got back.
EvaLilith Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007  Hobbyist Traditional Artist

I have a Facebook and just put photos and write to people who went to my primary school and stuff... but I don't get the whole applications thing. That's just annoying and weird.

Myspace is more annoying though. I have an account there, but I never go to it.
kedemel Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007   Digital Artist
I don't have any of those. I'm terribly uncool.
Chrispynutt Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007
I tried Myspace and I left.

DA and Flickr are my only social networkish sites as they have a point.
D-NA Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007
I've been on LJ for 4 years and yes, it's extremely confusing at first. But I love it because it allows me to control who can read my entries and there are fantastic communities that you can join, they also operate as friends and you can read them all on one page. Awesome.

Never been a fan of Myspace (I'm one of those 'I'd rather die than get a MS account';) - I don't trust a page that starts playing music without me WANTING to play it. That's the most annoying thing EVER. Screw you, Myspace :P
It's creepy as hell, too. My friend who is barely online got an account that is almost empty and she has almost 400 "friends" @_@ The hell lol. No thanks.
S4pphire Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007  Professional Interface Designer
I never got caught in any of those hypes but always kept wondering about what Facebook was really like and if there an idea in actually getting an account.

Hmm, oh well... According to the comments I probably wont be getting anything. Haha, might do my own twist later on. lol
Raynorn Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007
I have heard too much net drama to use social networking sites, besides employers are now googling potential employees so if there is anything that is considered "unprofessional" on a social networking site it could cost someone a job.

I read about a teacher who posted party picks and talked about being drunk, it cost her, she was fired.
Raynorn Featured By Owner Sep 7, 2007
". . . doesn't EVERYONE get drunk, at some point in their life?" LOL you are saying that to the wrong guy, I'm straight-edge, I'm 33 and I have never gotten drunk or high, and there are more people like me then you may expect. Being a video gamer I could use the fun line, "I press jump to get high" but I digress . . .

I think the argument used by the school was not so much that she got drunk, but that she put up public pictures of it therefore setting a bad example for the students. I am still in her corner, but I can see where they are coming from.

If I remember correctly she is suing them, it will be interesting to see how this turns out.
peachysticks Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007
Yeah but that's kinda obsurd... doesn't EVERYONE get drunk, at some point in their life? If it's something involving illegal substances/activity then I might be able to understand.
healdria Featured By Owner Sep 6, 2007
My friend kept telling me that Myspace is great for self-promotion since alot of the large companies actually have their own myspace pages. I find that maintaining DA can be a pain already, why get so many other ones? LJ is confusing to use, and Myspace requires too much personal coding to even look good, not to mention the possiblity of being hacked. I reckon unless you really need the publicity there's no point in diving into all these trends based on a moto elusive "friendship".
